"THERAPY IS THE MOST INTIMATE RELATIONSHIP THAT HUMANS CAN HAVE."

Melany Barrera - licensed psychologist specializing in LGBTQ+ and immigrant mental health

ABOUT ME

Hi, I am Melany Barrera Frederick. I believe healing begins with authenticity. In therapy, I show up as a real, human person: open, present, and genuine. Sometimes that means sharing a funny story, a curiosity, or even a cartoon I have been enjoying. My style is direct but warm. I will gently challenge you when needed, while being present as you begin to understand the role you play in your own pain.

As a Black, queer, immigrant psychologist, my work is rooted in human rights and social justice. Ethics is one of my main values as a clinician, which is why I intentionally keep a small caseload so each person receives the care they deserve.

For me, therapy is one of the most intimate and transformative relationships we can experience in our lives.

Extensive experience working with trauma, sexual violence, depression, anxiety, racial and gender identity, OCD, ADHD, relationship challenges, and self-esteem issues. More than eight years as a counsellor in both public and private practice.
